Connect With Nature At Green River Utah

from: Forsgrens

The state of Utah contains magnificent scenery of the wild and rugged kind and is a magnet for geologists. People who like to connect with nature love to visit the area and the city of Green River Utah is a good base from which to explore. There is a lot of through traffic therefore, and the local economy is sustained by tourists using the hotels, restaurants and gas stations.

San Rafael Swell is a region to the west of the city, known for its geologic features. The area contains canyons, gorges and valleys and has been mined for uranium. It's a popular spot with hikers, backpackers and horseback riders. ATV drivers also enjoy the challenge of the terrain.

The Canyonlands National Park, near Moab, is another region that has spectacular rock formations. It lies to the south of Green River Utah and contains canyons, potholes and other natural features. There is a Visitor's Center, gift shops, hotels and camping grounds. Visitors can take a raft out on the river, hike or mountain bike along the trails or follow the 4 Wheel Drive roads. The Park supports a diverse range of wildlife, including nocturnal species. There is the chance to see skunks, foxes, bobcats, mountain lions, bats and owls. Other wildlife includes mule deer, coyotes, porcupines, chipmunks, lizards, snakes, hawks and eagles.

Another unusual tourist attraction is situated nine miles from Green River Utah. The Crystal Geyser is a cold water geyser containing carbon dioxide that erupts every five hours. The landmark is a legacy from the past, when there was a natural mineral spring.

In addition to the great outdoors, the John Wesley Powell Museum offers visitors to Green River Utah, an opportunity to learn about the history of the area and its first settlers. Exhibits include displays on early Native Americans, the initial explorers and the men who lived and worked in the mountains. There is also information on the origin of the river and the riverboat men that worked it. Riverboats are displayed and there is a virtual river run. The museum takes its name from an explorer connected with the area.

Golfers are well catered for in this region. The Green River Utah State Park Golf Course is a 9-hole course, set in the desert terrain and containing some challenging sand traps. An 18-hole course can be found nearby, at the Carbon Country Club in Price. There is also the Millsite Golf Course, a par 36, at Ferron.
